The "coffin". Looks like a dark spell has come to an end with that one. But burying my glum moods with that? never! ha :-)))

new entry, long overdue!
Since I decided to participate in this years Christmas Market in our town hall (yes, its still a few months til then, but mosaics are not made in a day) my life has become a bit hectic.
My colleagues gave me the advice to make many (yea..many!) smaller mosaics which the customers can carry much easier than the huge ones (clever, doh!). I knew that!
So I have to finish my "white swirl" as fast as I can to start with a few smaller ones for the fair.
In addition to smaller pieces I am making some micro-mosaic pendants just for the fun of it and for sale too, of course. My family is already queuing up for the first ones. Those pendants are quite popular, so it seems (photos will follow). Crosses, flower-shaped things, oval ones, the lot...
I hope to sell much on that fair to earn a few €s for new material and tools.

Here is my last mosaic-collage for today.

The "cathedral". Finished before the "coffin" ;-)

Hey, not apologizing for seemingly neglecting this blog, cause I have been and still am very busy, ha!

Working on 2 mosaics at the moment and finished this small one, finally.
Looks like my *dark phase" has come to an end of sorts. But still, 2 black-ish glum ones to go...
I had this one all done with travertine mosaic stones and marble around those glass pieces with the tiny mask, when I realized that the contrast between all these materials was too extreme so I hammered all the stone pieces off again, except the brass mask and the iridescent glass shards.
Then I added black glass mosaic stones and voilĂ , I am quite contend with the new result.
All on a 21,5cm x 16cm ( 8,4" x 6,3"] MDF board.
Hanging above the stage piano at the moment, but for sale, of course ;-)

Working hard at the moment and selling too, so life is good, all in all. Found the perfect hooks for hanging my mosaics up now, yay! Will post pics soon-ish.

Sorry for no new updates lately, but I have been terribly busy.
Never thought I would say that, ever :-)
We had the *open door day* and it has been a huge success.
I started on a new mosaic involving rusty things, broken stones, glass and painting. Yes, I will try and combine all that.
I have a clear picture of the result in my head, but well, alteration are always possible.
And I finished the *grey woman* at last.
Somebody already asked me about the prize.
Well, we will see.
I need to buy tools, material and more so it will pay the bills, hopefully.

Just about to buy my first own website (domain) and now pondering over the right name for it.

It has been a good day today. Finished a new mosaic from the *dark times* series, as I'm calling them. I think I found the background color for my series on dark mosaics: lamp black, as its written on the bottle. Its acrylic paint of a warm black tone, tarnished and kind of mysterious ;-)

I used Canada slate, ammonites, marble, granite, grout forms, high-grade steal mosaic stones, opaque glass nuggets and pieces of floor tiles on wooden boards.
And I loved working with these materials.

Will start with a new one soon-ish, like.....tomorrow? ;-D
Found wonderful pieces of rusty steal and thick rusty wire. Will make a great start...

Sundays are wonderful days to work in studios! You can clean your stuff, ponder about new things and work undisturbed... unless you get unexpected visitors from "the past" like a nice couple who knew my late professor and most of those peeps I did study arts and sculpturing with those days.
Small world, cause they actually came for somebody else, who was on vacation, how very fortunate for me.
We had a wonderful time sitting on the deck in the sun, with coffee and cake, chatting about old times.
And I got my red mosaic finished at last, afterwards, yay!

I am quite pleased with the result. First time that I used paste-like styrofoam glue as gesso on a wooden board together with tile shards, glass nuggets and hand-made Indian beads.
The glue material is easy to apply and very good to sandpaper eventually. And its cheaper than the expensive gesso putty you are getting here in the art supply shops. You can buy this 'paste-like glue' in very home improvement store.
Its wonderful for putting a bit of a structure on the canvas for paintings as well
I will surely use it for my next mixed-media mosaics as well.
Love it!

Its almost Easter weekend now and the last few days have been a bit busy for me.
Working in and around the house and cleaning off and replanting flowers on my mom's grave have been taking me away from my studio for a while.
I am missing my tweezers though and my shards!
So here are a few things I would like to add.
I finished my grey and white mosaic with the grout-torso and will post a piccy as soon as I'll get to taking pics again. As a special thing I added aluminum wire sticking out from between the gaps, ah, you'll see. Looking nice, I think.
In my studio I am now having 2 new tables, high enough to stand while working and a special high chair to rest my bum on inbetween.
Thats far better than sitting at a normal table on a normal seat, which is making my back ache too much after some time. Those high tables are keeping me moving around and everybody knows: the best position for your back is the next one!
Here's my first mosaic ever. I made that one last year, not knowing how and what. All I knew those days about that material I learned from the internet ;-)
Yeah, you can learn from the net!

Flat stones, white tile-shards, grey granite tiles, pearls, aluminum wire (I love it) glass nuggets, tiny broken glass shards and a small plaster mask I made myself. Thats when I started to create tiny objects like fish, masks, lizards, etc to fit into my mosaics. Material: plaster, grout, concrete.
Btw, plaster is a wonderful material to cast with. If you are using special plaster, like dental-plaster, it will become a very hard and splinter-proof work of art.

Last photo for today:
My little "fat woman" getting a nice do with a very insensible looking instrument... ;-)
